JOHOR BARU: A 21-year-old saleswoman has claimed trial for dangerous and reckless driving, which claimed the lives of eight cyclists on Feb 18.
Sam Ke Ting was charged under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and pleaded not guilty when the charge was read out to her this morning.
Magistrate Salina Omar set bail at RM10,000 in one surety and ordered Sam to surrender her passport and confiscated her driving license.
The eight teenagers were killed on Feb 18 when a car driven by Sam drove into a group of cyclists in Jalan Lingkaran Dalam about 3am.
The group of 30 to 40 teenagers on bicycles, aged 13 to 17 years, were believed to have obstructed Jalan Lingkaran Dalam and other nearby roads before being mowed down by the car.
Police found the bicycles used by all the victims had been modified and were not following the permitted specifications.
