KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry is conducting a comprehensive study on the subjects of history, mathematics and moral education, which recorded a decline in performance in the 2016 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).
Its minister, Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said a full report on the study would be released by the Examination Board soon.
"Many of the measures taken is to improve the performance of subjects such as mathematics, in terms of curriculum, assessment, learning and enhancing the education transformation programme at the district level," he said at the Dewan Rakyat sitting here today.
He was replying to a question from Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad (BN-Parit Sulong) who wanted to know the ministry's pragmatic measures in improving student performance in mathematics.
Mahdzir also called for more emphasis on history subject as it was compulsory to pass the subject in SPM.
"Efforts relating to this history subject should be emphasised by the ministry, department and teachers because it is compulsory and they need to understand the history of their own country," he added. — Bernama
