BALIK PULAU: The green wall at Entopia, formerly known as the Penang Butterfly Farm, has been entered into the Malaysian Book of Records as the biggest in the country.

Entopia CEO Joseph Goh said the 188m long wall was green as the structure consisted of 88,868 planting pockets where 22 species of plants were planted.

He said the primary function of the wall was to shield the western facade of the building from the sun which will lower the heat from the sun and cut the use of air conditioning in the building.

"The plants also help to reduce our carbon footprint and provides aesthetic qualities to our building facade," he said at the official launch of the Entopia building today.

Launching the building was Penang Yang di-Pertua Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas and his wife Toh Puan Majimor Shariff who were accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Rashid Hasnon.

Goh said the green wall also served as a biological filtration system to the major ponds within the attraction.

He said this meant the water quality was maintained without the use of any chemicals and made the system unique.

"Today we are proud to announce that Entopia's green wall is to set the record for the Biggest Green Wall in Malaysia," he said prior to the presentation of the certificate to Entopia chairman David Goh by Malaysia Book of Records COO Christopher Wong.
