Makkah crane collapse: No news on compensation payment, say TH

KUALA LUMPUR: The Pilgrims' Fund Board (Tabung Haji-TH) has not received any news pertaining to compensation payment for victims who were killed or injured in the crane collapse incident in Makkah during the haj season in September 2015.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, however, said TH was always in contact with the Saudi Arabia government for the latest development on the matter.
"Compensation payment (to the victims) is the absolute right of the Saudi Arabia government. TH has submitted the names of the pilgrims involved to the Saudi Arabian government for the purpose.
"TH is always in contact with the Saudi Arabia government and will inform (recipients) of any latest development," he told the Dewan Rakyat today.
Asyraf Wajdi was responding to a question by Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (PAS-Bachok) who wanted to know the latest development on the compensation payment for victims of the crane collapse in Makkah.
In the incident, which occurred on Sept 11, 2015, seven Malaysians were among more than 100 people killed, while hundreds others were injured, when a crane collapsed on the Grand Mosque.
To a supplementary question from Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan) on TH contributions to the victims, Asyraf Wajdi said TH contributed a total of RM43,000 to the families of each victim. — Bernama
