JOHOR BARU: Police detained two suspects to assist investigations in the case of a Year One pupil who was injured and scalded on his buttock, believed due to caning and use of a hot instrument, by his tuition teachers.
North Johor Baru police chief ACP Mohd Taib Ahmad said both suspects, aged 34 and 23, were teachers at the centre where the victim studied.
"Both suspects were picked up yesterday evening to assist investigations. This brings the total number of people detained so far to three, including a man. All three would be remanded for five days starting today," he said in a statement here today.
In a media conference organised by Pengkalan Rinting assemblyman Cheo Yee How yesterday, the victim's sister said she believed her younger brother was beaten for being naughty and not completing school work.
She claimed she was informed of the incident at about 5pm by a couple who were neighbours of the teachers.
According to her, the couple said her brother ran from the teachers' house to hide in their house.
"When I rushed over, I found signs of bleeding on the trousers and found scald marks on the buttocks. My brother said the teacher caned him and later scalded his buttock using a cup and a hot pan of boiling water," she said.
Mohd Taib said following a police report lodged by the victim's sister, a man, believed to be an assistant to the teachers was detained. — Bernama
