KUALA LUMPUR: Police have nabbed a suspect who was allegedly carrying drugs after a car chase along the New Pantai Expressway (NPE) today.
Brickfields deputy district police chief Supt Arifai Tarawi said the incident occurred at 4.15pm on Tuesday when a traffic policeman initially stopped a car at Jalan Syed Putra here.
He said the 46-year-old driver stopped his car at the side of the road and the policeman approached the vehicle for an inspection.
"The policeman realised that the driver was throwing an object underneath the car. However, as the policeman went closer, the driver tried to escape and rammed the police patrol car.
"The suspect then fled the scene and was seen exiting towards the NPE highway," he said.
Arifai said the patrol car had to chase the suspect through Sunway and the suspect's car rammed about 10 cars before it was forced to stop after hitting the final vehicle.
"The suspect was adamant and still tried to escape on foot but police managed to apprehend him after a struggle," he added.
In the scuffle, the policeman suffered cuts and bruises on his left wrist while the suspect had injuries on his head.
He added preliminary investigation found that the object which was thrown out from the suspect's car was a transparent plastic bag filled with Syabu.
Arifai said the suspect also tested positive for methamphetamine and said the case was being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a civil servant from carrying out his duty.
