KUALA LUMPUR: The operator of the controversial Valet Doa (prayer valet) service has already been told to stop operating by the Selangor religious authorities, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom (pix).
He also urged Muslims to be wary of any parties offering such services.
"Based on the location, the individual operating the service was in Selangor. The Selangor Islamic Affairs Department and the Selangor Mufti Department had summoned the individual and advised him to stop the valet service.
"The Valet Doa could create misunderstanding and damage our akidah (faith)," he said during the question and answer session at the Dewan Rakyat.
He was responding to a question from Datuk Normala Abdul Samad (BN - Pasir Gudang) who asked on the action taken by the government on the issue of Valet Doa.
Jamil Khir said several muftis had complained about the service despite no fatwas (edicts) being issued to ban Valet Doa.
He added that anything that was uttered by the muftis can be considered as an order and action could be taken against those who go against it.
He said advertisements by the operator gave an image to customers that their prayers would be fulfilled.
The Valet Doa service which was promoted on Facebook early this year, offered various packages to Muslims who want their prayers to be read in Mecca.
