KUALA LUMPUR: The public should not be ungrateful towards the Barisan Nasional (BN) government as all the facilities and amenities enjoyed today is the result of decades of hard work.
Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor (pix) said the people should not forget this and risk losing this stability on a whim.
"Remember all the things that the government has done, all the education and all the housing that you have is the work of the government.
"Don't be ungrateful and believe the lies spread by certain parties and destroy everything the government has built for you.
"You have all benefited from government programmes. You know you have," Tengku Adnan said in a politically charged speech during the launch of Residensi Seri Wahyu today.
However, he also acknowledged that the government had made its fair share of mistakes such as the dreadful traffic congestion common in Kuala Lumpur.
Tengku Adnan urged the people to be patient and said the city will eventually be a place all can be proud of once various government programmes for its development is complete.
He said these programmes include building more affordable housing in the city, such as Residensi Seri Wahyu under the Federal Territories Housing Programme (Rumawip).
Seri Wahyu will have 660 units measuring 805 ft² at a below market price of only RM300,000 and will be constructed by Enhancing Height Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Mah Sing Group.
Tengku Adnan said his Ministry is also looking for other companies to develop similar projects through Rumawip, in which the government will help lower development costs to drive prices down.
He said this will help the younger generation own property in their home city, creating an increased sense of identity among citizens.
"We want the people of Kuala Lumpur to own property in the city so they will have a sense of belonging here," Tengku Adnan said.
