PETALING JAYA: The spread of hate politics by the opposition will influence the public and incite hatred towards the government, leading the country towards violent extremism, said MCA vice president Datuk Seri Lee Chee Leong.
He said in facing the imminent threat posed by the proposed amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 (Act 355) , DAP should not try to evade its responsibility by slandering MCA aimlessly.
He pointed out that DAP was the Islamic party's accomplice and partner in the last two general elections.
"It is puzzling why DAP trains its guns at MCA and Gerakan of late, as PAS was the proponent of the Act 355 amendments," Lee said in a statement today.
He added that at present MCA and Gerakan only thrive on the little political and bargaining power it has in the Barisan Nasional coalition.
He said while protecting the interest of the people they (MCA and Gerakan) still have to fend off dirty accusations from the opposition.
Lee said at this critical juncture MCA has to juggle different challenges, which include the proposed Act 355 amendments.
"DAP only knows how to slander MCA aimlessly and viciously, attack us just for the sake of attacking, how long will this last?," he asked
Lee said a country's progress is propelled by positive vision, while rational thinking is important for nation-building and hate politics must be defeated.
