PETALING JAYA: A "Datuk" who sits on the board of several public-listed companies remanded for graft allegations by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) Penang branch has been identified as Datuk Syed Mohamad Syed Murtaza.
Both Globetronics Technology Bhd and Master-Pack Group Bhd said in filings with Bursa Malaysia today that Syed Mohamad has been remanded to facilitate and assist investigations currently being conducted by MACC.
The 70-year old is Globetronics independent non-executive director and Master-Pack chairman.
Master-Pack said it understands that Syed Mohamad is being investigated under Section 23 of the SPRM Act 2009 for matters relating to Yayasan Bumiputra Pulau Pinang Berhad and not the company.
"As such, we do not expect the remand to have any operational or management impact on the company as the executive director of the main subsidiaries of the Company Sim Poh Lai will continue business as usual with daily operations and management of the Master-Pack Group," it stressed.
Meanwhile, Globetronics said Syed Mohamad is not involved in the company's day-to-day business and operations, hence the remand will not have any impact on the company.
