PETALING JAYA: In what seems to be the most telling detail yet on the repatriation of Kim Jong-Nam's body to North Korea, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar hinted that North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un may have been the one who gave his DNA to identify and claim the body of his half brother.
Yesterday, the body of Jong-Nam was released to North Korea, which left many puzzled as to the body's final location.
This is because many believed that Jong-Nam's body would be sent to Macau where his son Kim Han Sol is believed to be.
When asked about the identity of the next of kin that gave his/her DNA to claim the body, Khalid remained coy.
"The next of kin came to claim the body.
When pressed further about the identity, he said: "I cannot tell you who claimed the body. But legally Kim Jong-Un is the next of kin of Kim Jong-Nam. I am not saying he claimed the body, but legally, he is the next of kin," he said.
Yesterday Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak said that the government had received a letter from Jong Nam's family requesting for the body to be flown back to North Korea.
He did not say however who Jong-Nam's family was.
