GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng (pix) has urged the government to sever diplomatic ties with North Korea, because the latter only released the nine Malaysians who were stranded there, after Kim Jong-Nam's body was released.
Guan Eng said Putrajaya needs to sent a strong message to Pyongyang that such uncivilised manners will not be tolerated by Malaysia.
He said the government should take a concrete stand while calling on Malaysians not to visit N. Korea anymore.
"I urge Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak to cut off ties with them," he said at a press conference today.
The nine Malaysians who been barred from leaving Pyongyang, arrived safely at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Friday.
They were, the Malaysian ambassador's personal assistant Noor Saaidah Jamaluddin, 29, her husband Mohd Radzuan Othman, 29, their eight-month old son Mohamad Radhiy; administrative officer Nirmala Malar Kodi, 45; embassy counsellor Mohd Nor Azrin Md Zain, 37, his wife Iza Karmila Ramli, 35, and their three children Annur Zulaikha, 6, Aynur Zhafirah, 5, and Ayscha Zinnirah, 3.
Lim was perplexed as to why ties with the hermit kingdom had not been cut-off yet even after they went overboard with their demands.
"We must respect the sanctity of human lives," he said.
