Doctors remove live worm from man's brain

DOCTORS in China made a startling discovery when they found and 11-centimetre long parasite wriggling inside a patient's brain – and even more shocking – the worm has been there for two years!
19-year-old Wen Xioali from Hunan, China, had been experiencing severe migraines for the past two years and sought advice from doctors as the pain became unbearable.
He was certainly unprepared to find that a fully formed parasite had been living in his head the entire time.
An operation was conducted to remove the worm and it proved to be a daunting task as doctors had to ensure the parasite was intact. If its body was broken, it would continue to survive in his brain.
Doctors opened up his skull and carefully managed to pull out the worm – which was still alive and wriggling – in one go.
It is believed the tapeworm had entered Wen's body through a cut on his finger and travelled all the way up to his brain.
"Parasitic infections are very rare, but the larvae are able to move all around the body and once in the brain it will feed off brain cells to survive," said a neurosurgeon who performed the procedure, as quoted by Metro.
Wen is currently recovering from the procedure.
