A UNIVERSITY student in Shanghai sold 20 of her eggs on the black market for 250,000 yuan (RM160,590). She was exposed by a local television station in a news programme which was aired earlier in the week.
A reporter from Shanghai Television posed as an egg donor herself and arranged to meet a black market broker on Feb 19.
She used a hidden camera to take footage of herself waiting to be interviewed along with a half-dozen other women in an office building. The broker asked her a range of questions, including details about her scores on each subject of the college entrance examinations and the medical history of her extended family members.
Donors were said to have used their appearance, health and education as bargaining chips to negotiate the highest possible offer for their eggs, according to the report.
One of the girls the reporter met was a university student from Shanghai who was able to sell her 20 eggs for 250,000 yuan (RM160,590). The woman claimed she used some of the money to buy an iPhone Plus 7.
"I don't think there is any risk to this," the woman said. "Another girl who I came here with is doing it for the second time."
The eggs were harvested in an office building instead of a hospital.
