KUALA LUMPUR: Three suspects, aged between 24 and 26, were arrested today over an attack on three policemen from a Bukit Aman elite force at a nightspot on Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar early on Saturday.
Brickfields police chief ACP Sharul Othman Mansor said the case is being investigated for rioting with weapons.
Police are on the hunt for the remaining attackers who are at large.
In the incident, two of the policemen suffered serious head and bodily injuries when more than a dozen men who were at the Echo Club and believed to be from an underworld gang, set upon them at about 4.30am, a stone's throw away from a police beat.
It is believed that the policemen had gone to the place to carry out a surveillance on underworld gang activities when several patrons, said to be gang members became suspicious of their presence.
They approached the cops and questioned them before launching an assault in the trio with sticks, bottles and other blunt objects.
The attackers, all who were said to be highly drunk bolted from the scene when a policeman drew his service pistol and identified himself.
The injured policemen were later taken to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.
