PUTRAJAYA:The Bumiputra Economic Agenda should not be viewed as a backward policy as it had brought stability and sustainability in the business and political environment, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pix).
He said the Bumiputra Economic Agenda had not only benefited the Bumiputras but also the non-bumiputras.
Ahmad Zahid said this in his speech read by Minister in the Prime Minister's department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan at the launch of the syndication of Bumiputra Economic Transformation Roadmap (BETR2.0) at Putrajaya International Convention Centre here today.
He said the Bumiputra Agenda Steering Unit (Teraju) has outlined five core principles to elevate the Bumiputra economy in the next six years.
The principles are Market Friendly, Need Based, Merit Based, Transparency and Pro-Growth.
The syndication is held for seven days and involved more than 500 participants from 25 different agencies.
The aim of the syndication is to get feedback on the proposed initiatives and to enable stakeholders to suggest additional initiatives, as well as ensuring all ministries involved have the right understanding of the BETR2.0 direction.
"We want the roadmap to be drafted from bottom up. We have formed policies from top down many a time and if we do it this way we end up having to solve teething and bureaucratic problems," said Ahmad Zahid.
He added that there is a need for everyone to sit down together, discuss issues and problems and also identify policies that need tweaking.
