Private developer to allocate RM20m for Metropolis Park project

KUALA LUMPUR: A sum of RM20 million will be allocated by a private developer to build a Metropolis Park in its ongoing KL Metropolis development in agreement with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and in line with the government's Greener Kuala Lumpur programme.
Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the agreement between DBKL and Naza TTDI is a win-win situation that will contribute towards the drive for a greener city.
Tengku Adnan said such collaborations for the betterment of the country should be encouraged by government agencies and he has given instructions to fast-track such efforts.
"I have instructed government officers in my ministry and in DBKL to assist the private sector in such programmes, not to frustrate them," he said in his speech before the ground-breaking ceremony for the park at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec) today.
Tengku Adnan said closer collaboration between the government and the private sector will also help deliver projects and development more suited to the people's needs.
He said sometimes public parks received lukewarm reception as people in the area either had no need for it or found the park not to their liking.
KL mayor Datuk Seri Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz said the local government aims to increase the number of public parks in the city from 15 to 20.
However, he said, the government has very limited amount of land left and building more public parks will be very much dependent on cooperation with private developers.
Located in the Sri Hartamas area, the 2.02ha Metropolis Park will include information centres, community centres, jogging tracks, play areas, a water park, picnic areas, an amphitheatre, and many other amenities, which Naza TTDI will maintain 15 years after completion.
The park is part of the 6.07ha-wide KL Metropolis development, which is divided into eight precincts containing a five-star hotel, an office block, luxury housing, a shopping complex, and a 100-storey tower with the Naza logo on it.
The ground-breaking ceremony was attended by Naza TTDI group executive chairman S. M. Nasarudin S. M. Nasimuddin and group managing director S. M. Faliq S. M .Nasimuddin.
