Two students drown as mini tractor plunges into river

BESUT: Two children aged 7 and 10 drowned while two others were rescued when a mini tractor plunged into Sungai Besut near Kampung Cegar Malok, Hulu Besut, today.
The two children who drowned were identified as Nor Aimy Dania Azman, 7, and Rabiatul Adawiyah Sayuti, 10, both from Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung La, Hulu Besut.
The driver of the mini tractor and Nor Aimy's sister were rescued during the 5.30pm incident.
Besut police chief Supt Mohd Zamri Mohd Rowi said the three students had hitched a ride on the tractor near the river but while trying to climb a bund by the side of the river, the tractor suddenly lost control and plunged into the river.
"All three students who were seating behind the driver were thrown into the river by the impact.
Nor Aimy died at the scene while Rabiatul passed away while on the way to the Besut Hospital for treatment.
Both the bodies were later sent to the Besut Hospital for post-mortem. — Bernama
