Not all PLUS toll plazas will have reload lanes come April 26

PETALING JAYA: Not all toll plazas along the PLUS highways will have reload lanes once the company goes fully electronic beginning April 26.
PLUS Malaysia Berhad Corporate Communications head Mohd Nizam Ismail said smaller toll plazas, especially those with only two to three toll booths, would not allocate a reload lane to avoid congestion.
As such, he said motorists should plan ahead and make sure they have sufficient credit in their PLUSMiles or Touch 'n Go cards before exiting the highway.
“We have numerous locations where PLUS users can top-up their cards along the highways, including petrol stations and Touch ’n Go self-service kiosks,” he said when contacted today.
Mohd Nizam said for bigger toll plazas, dedicated reload lanes would be made available for top-up and the purchasing of new cards.
On whether there would be any delay in the transition to a fully cashless system, Mohd Nizam said: “We have already gone cashless in the northern region, and it has been a success. It’s just a matter of making it fully electronic nationwide.”
PLUS managing director Datuk Azman Ismail had, on March 23, announced the move to a fully electronic toll payment at all its expressways, involving 71 toll plazas between Juru and Skudai.
Motorist would have to pay their toll charges using only either PLUSMiles, Touch 'n Go or SmartTAG.
A recent study showed that it takes an average of 15 seconds to pay cash at the toll booth, nine seconds with the Touch ‘n Go and only three seconds with SmartTAG.
As such, SmartTAG and Touch ‘n Go lanes can cater for up to 1,000 and 600 toll transactions per hour respectively, compared to 180 transactions via the cash payment lane.
