KAJANG: Four robbers armed with an object resembling a pistol robbed a jewellery shop at Jalan Tun Abdul Aziz here on Monday, the third time it had been hit.
Kajang district police chief ACP Othman Nayan said today that the robbers, who had helmets on, barged into the gems store at about 6pm and got away with an estimated RM100,000 worth of jewellery.
Closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) footage was made available to police and the suspects were seen smashing the glass jewellery showcases with a sledgehammer and scooping out jewellery on display.
The robbers then fled the scene in a getaway car parked outside.
Othman said the gems store, which has been operating here since 1997, was previously hit in 2005 and again in 2015.
He said the jewellery shop did not have a security guard at the time of the robbery but 10 CCTV cameras were in operation.
There were two foreign workers in the shop at the time of the heist.
One was in the office area while the other was attending to two female customers at the front when the four suspects barged into the premises.
"Investigators are gathering clues to trace the identity and whereabouts of the robbers who are believed to be locals," he said, adding that the Bukit Aman forensic personnel who arrived at the scene traced 10 fingerprints.
Images and videos of the robbery have gone viral on social media.
