The opposition shows its true colours: Noh Omar

KUALA LUMPUR: The opposition has shown its true colours when the Selangor legislative assembly reprimanded an Umno assemblyman over remarks directed against DAP.
Selangor Umno chief Tan Sri Noh Omar said the Batang Kali assemblyman Datuk Mat Nadzari Ahmad Dahlan's statements were truthful and it was hypocritical for the assembly to take action.
"I think Batang Kali's (Mat Nadzari) remarks were based on DAP's party constitution, and my understanding of the DAP constitution is the same as well.
"The Selangor state assembly claims to uphold freedom of speech, but the action against him shows that they are using their powers against opposition (BN) assemblymen who spoke out against their parties," Noh told the press when visiting the Seri Aman PPR today.
He said this is consistent with the behaviour of the federal opposition, which backtracked on their principles and policies when they managed to wrest power in Selangor and Penang.
"In politics, it's all the same. They say one thing when in the opposition, then use or misuse their powers to suppress freedom of speech as well," Noh said.
Mat Nadzari was reprimanded for claiming the DAP does not recognise Malaysia's constitutional monarchy system during his budget debate speech on Nov 1, 2016 in the state assembly.
Meanwhile, Noh called Sekinchan assemblyman Ng Suee Lim a liar for claiming Noh had not made good on his election promise to build a hospital in Tanjong Karang, where he is MP.
He said he had never promised a hospital to be built during election campaigns and Ng had similarly uttered falsehoods against him in the past.
Noh said the assemblyman had accused him of abusing funds meant for local paddy farmers in his constituency and he sued Ng for defamation as a result.
He said the suit was settled out of court eventually and Ng apologised, but stressed that the suit was not about money but to maintain his dignity as a lawmaker.
