Remand on Tan Sri in alleged attempt to bribe Johor Sultan extended by three days

PUTRAJAYA: The remand order on a 54-year-old businessman who was held last week by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over an alleged attempt to bribe the Sultan of Johor to obtain the title of Tan Sri was extended by another three days.
The suspect who is a Tan Sri was taken to the Putrajaya magistrates court earlier where the remand order extension was issued by magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab Rahman.
He was remanded for five days after being held by the MACC on Thursday following a report made by Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar days earlier on the suspect's alleged bribery attempt.
It is believed that the suspect who is a well-known businessman had allegedly played broker to acquire the Tan Sri title for another businessman.
The man whose core business is in direct-selling and multi-level marketing is also known to mingle with royalty, government VIPs and other big shots.
The Johor Sultan had revealed that he felt insulted when the individual made the RM2 million offer and suggested the state Ruler profit from the quota of Tan Sri titles he is granted by the federal government.
On April 27, MACC chief commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad and several of his senior officers met the Sultan at a luxury hotel here for over an hour to obtain information of the bribery attempt before initiating an investigation on the case.
