Seda urges schools, NGOs with own premises to apply for Solar PV Community quota

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia has urged schools, religious bodies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), that have their own premises to apply for the Solar PV Community quota as a means of generating long-term income.
In a statement, Seda Chairman Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai said by investing in the installation and selling the energy generated to the utility company, they would be able to generate income for the next 21 years.
"Currently in Sabah, there are about 35 schools, religious bodies and NGOs that have been granted and approved for Solar PV Community quota.
"One such school that has benefitted is SJKC Chung Hwa Kota Kinabalu. Since 2015, the school has enjoyed a monthly average of about RM3,000 income from the sale of energy generated from its 24 kilowatt Solar PV installation," he added.
Yee said this year, Seda Malaysia had allocated five megawatts under the community quota and applications for Feed-in Tariff (FiT) under it is open until Aug 30. — Bernama
