PETALING JAYA: Wanita MCA has welcomed the passing of the Sexual Offences Against Children Bill 2017 on Tuesday at the Dewan Rakyat but persisted in its call for a Sex Offenders Registry.
Its chairman, Datuk Heng Seai Kie, said sections in the Bill include prosecution against Malaysian paedophiles back on home soil although their perverted crimes were committed overseas.
"Given the penalties, Wanita MCA hopes that would-be sex fiends will think twice before taking advantage of the poor and under educated or homeless street children," she said.
Heng said Wanita MCA also wholeheartedly supports the government’s plan to table amendments to the Domestic Violence Bill which also offers protection to husbands, parents and in-laws.
She said the Bill will protect family ties besides encouraging family members to treat each other with love, care and respect.
"While Wanita MCA upholds the rights of women, wives and children to be safe from marital and domestic abuse, we take cognition that there are also cases when the physically and emotionally victims are the husband," she said in a statement today.
