One dead, three hurt after car plunges into monsoon drain

JOHOR BARU: A 40-year old factory employee was killed while three others suffered injuries when the car they were travelling in skidded and plunged into a monsoon drain at Jalan Bestari 8/3, Taman Bestari Indah, Ulu Tiram today.
The dead was identified as Syamsuddin Ab Samad, 40.
The deceased, his wife and two children were on their way home to Taman Bestari Indah at about 1am this morning.
Seri Alam district police chief Superintendent Jokhiri Abd Aziz said initial investigations revealed that the driver lost control of his vehicle at a curve near Jalan Bestari 8/3, skidded and plunged into the big drain and turned turtle.
He said Syamsuddin died on the spot while his wife and children were rescued by firemen from the Johor Jaya Fire and Rescue department.
The deceased's wife Arbayah Jais, 30, suffered injuries to her waist while their children suffered body injuries.
They sought treatment at the Sultan Ismail Hospital while the body of the deceased was sent to the hospital mortuary.
