Tan Sri businessman released on bail

PUTRAJAYA: A businessman who was remanded over an attempt to bribe the Sultan of Johor for honorific titles, was released on a RM50,000 Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) cash bail today.
The 54-year-old Tan Sri was released at 9.50am today after his eight-day remand order expired.
Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab Rahman allowed the businessman to be released on cash bail and another RM150,000 with one surety.
Lawyer Datuk K. Kumaraendran represented the businessman.
The businessman was remanded for a total of eight days since March 31 to assist an investigation in connection with an attempt to bribe Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar to obtain the Tan Sri title for another businessman.
On March 30, the businessman surrendered at the MACC headquarters here, following an order by the commission to reveal his identity.
On March 25, Sultan Ibrahim revealed that he was offered RM2 million by the person to propose a name to the Chief Secretary for a 'Tan Sri' title from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
