Excavator operator killed at construction site

BATU PAHAT: An excavator operator was killed in an accident at a housing construction site in Batu Pahat today.
Personnel from the Penggaram fire and rescue station rushed to the scene at 11.35pm after receiving a distress call. The deceased, Mohd Zainal Abd Latef, 31, from Jerantut, Pahang, was found buried in a heap of earth. His body was extricated from the debris at 12.59pm.
Penggaram fire station chief Saifulle Idris said the body has been handed to the police for further investigation.
Meanwhile, in JOHOR BARU, a driver cheated death when the car she was driving plunged into a lake in Taman Impian Emas on Sunday morning.
North Johor Baru district police chief ACP Mohd Taib Ahmad said initial investigation revealed that the driver lost control of the vehicle, crashed into a tree before plunging into the lake.
The 28-year-old female driver escaped with minor injuries in the incident that happened around 2.20am.
