Racial slur against Zambry uncalled for: Karpal

PETALING JAYA (Dec 1, 2011): Perak DAP secretary Nga Kor Ming's racial comment that Perak Mentri Besar Zambry Abdul Kadir was a 'metallic black person' was ill-advised, DAP national chairman Karpal Singh said today.

"That statement ought not to have crossed Nga's mind, let alone uttered.

"Any derogatory remark directed at any community or race has serious implications and consequences," he said in a statement.

Nga, who is also Taiping MP, allegedly used the term to describe Zambry, in reference to his dark complexion, during political rallies in Kamunting two months ago.

Karpal said DAP was a multi-racial party and its leaders were not known to pass derogatory remarks against any community or race.

"No doubt, Nga has apologised to Zambry at first opportunity. That apology should be accepted in good faith and the matter should rest there.

"It is hoped that in future, Nga will be more careful in ensuring his remarks do not slight any race or person,” he said.
