Businessman charged in hospital ward with cheating taxi driver

KLANG (Jan 27, 2012) : A ward at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital was turned into a Magistrate's Court today to charge a businessman, who is suffering from chronic diabetes, of cheating a taxi driver of RM90,000 two years ago.

However, Datuk Shamsubahrin Ismail, 46, pleaded not guilty to the charge before Magistrate Hurman Hussin, from the Klang Magistrate's Court.

Shamsubahrin is alleged to have deceived Limat Jonit, 57, into investing in a company which did not exist, resulting in the taxi driver to deposit RM90,000 into his (Shamsubahrin's) personal bank account.

The offence, under Section 420 of the Penal Code, was allegedly committed at the Port Klang Maybank branch on March 24, 2010.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Elya Ezrin Mohd Roslan offered bail at RM15,000, but lawyer N.Surendran, requested for a lower bail as his client had recently posted bail of RM300,000 for another case at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court.

Surendran said his client was also ordered to surrender his passport to the court.

Hurman then set bail at RM9,000 and fixed Feb 27 for mention.

On Dec 30 last year, Shamsubahrin pleaded not guilty in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court to a charge with cheating National Feedlot Corporation chairman, Datuk Dr Mohamad Salleh Ismail, of RM1.775 million. - Bernama
