Penang Run may be postponed if haze worsens

GEORGE TOWN (June 21, 2013): The Penang state government might consider postponing the second leg of the Penang Run 2013/2014, which is scheduled to be held on July 7, if the haze situation becomes worse in the state.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the second leg, which is the 21km run from Teluk Kumbar to Balik Pulau, might be postponed to another date if the haze situation hits Penang badly.

"As for now, the situation is good," he said this at a press conference to announce the event.

Also present were the Penang Run 2013/2014 organising chairman Andrew Loh and committee member Steven Sim Chee Keong.

The Penang Run 2013/2014 will see participants running around the island in four different routes on four different dates - covering a total of 84 km around the island. It will showcase parts of Penang, including its industrial, greenery and coastal areas.

The first leg, carried out from Esplanade to Teluk Kumbar, was carried out on May 12. Almost 1,000 participants, both local and foreign, joined the event.

The third and fourth leg, will be carried out on Oct 13 this year and Jan 12 next year, will be held from Balik Pulau to Teluk Bahang and Teluk Bahang to Esplanade, respectively.

The run also features an interesting medal for those who reach the finish line - the four medals which can be combined to form a bigger medallion.
