Lexus Malaysia launches new IS

THE all-new Lexus IS premium luxury sedan range has arrived in Malaysia. Present to launch the car at the Lexus Centre, Mutiara Damansara this week were UMW Toyota Motor chairman Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin, deputy chairman Datuk Takashi Hibi, president Datuk Ismet Suki, and Lexus Asia Pacific vice president Paul Caroll.

Lexus Malaysia IS offering four variants of the IS, ranging from the IS250, IS250 Luxury, IS300h Luxury, and the high performance IS250 F-Sport.

Powering the IS250 range is a 2.5-litre V6 that generates 205hp at 6,400rpm and 252Nm of torque. Paired to the engine is a six-speed ECT (electronically controlled transmission) that also features a sequential manual shifting mode with rev-matching downshifts in Sport mode.

Additionally, the F-Sport variant also gets a set of exclusive paint job options, an aggressive exterior styling, and comes standard with a digital instrumentation inspired by the Lexus LFA supercar.

The IS300h on the other hand features a full hybrid rear-wheel drive system. Power is produced by a combination of an electric motor and a newly developed Atkinson 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with Dual VVT-I, D-4S fuel injection, and an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system.

The IS300h's hybrid system is designed to meet its targeted low carbon emissions rating of below 100g/km, as well as an average fuel rate of 20.4km/litre.

Order takings have already begun since June 19 and Lexus Malaysia aims to sell 60 units of the new IS within the year. The IS250 range, including the F-Sport variant, is priced starting from RM269,900 to RM333,000.

The IS300h instead will command a starting price of RM383,000. With the launch of the new IS, Lexus Malaysia also announced plans of further expanding its brand presence in Malaysia.

Lexus will be opening three more centres located in Ipoh, Kuching, and Malacca within the fourth quarter of this year.
