Kuala Besut by-election: Ministry to decide on schools involved

KUALA TERENGGANU (July 7, 2013): The State Education Department (JPNT) is leaving it to the Education Ministry to decide on the schools that would be used as polling centres for the by-election for the Kuala Besut State Legislative Assembly constituency on July 24.

Terengganu Education Director Zakaria Hussin said so far the department had not received any directive from the ministry whether the school involved would be allowed to take replacement leave. He said the JPNT was also waiting for the decision from the ministry on the school to be used as the polling centre.

"So far, we have not decided on the school to be used as the polling centre and we leave it to the ministry to decide," he said when contacted by Bernama, here today.

The Kuala Besut State Assembly seat fell vacant following the death of the incumbent assemblyman Datuk Dr A Rahman Mokhtar on June 26.

In the 13th general election, Dr A Rahman retained the Kuala Besut state seat for the Barisan Nasional (BN) after beating the PAS candidate, Napisah Ismail by a 2,434-vote majority. The Kuala Besut state constituency has 17,683 registered voters.

Meanwhile, Terengganu Election Commission director Fakhrul Razi Ab Wahab, when contacted, said nine polling centres would be opened for the polling day. – Bernama
