MAS to start KL-Kochi flights, reinstate KL-Darwin route

PETALING JAYA (July 9, 2013): Malaysia Airlines (MAS) will be adding two destinations to its expanding network after its impending return to Dubai.

The national carrier will introduce daily flights between Kuala Lumpur (KL) and Kochi, India, from September 1, 2013, and reinstate services between KL and Darwin, Australia, five times weekly effective November 1, 2013 after it ceased services to the Northern Territory of Australia in 2002.

Malaysia Airlines group CEO Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said in a statement: "Malaysia Airlines needs to grow in tandem with the growth of the region. This means investing in our fleet, in the quality of our product and services. As the national carrier, we have decided to operate to these three cities, Dubai, Kochi and Darwin to introduce Malaysia to new markets – and we are happy to reinstate Dubai and Darwin into Malaysia Airlines' network to extend our reach and strengthen our offering to customers."

"Besides that, we have also been actively increasing frequencies to various regional destinations," he added.
Both KL-Kochi and KL-Darwin routes will be operating on the 160-seater B737-800. The B737-800 aircraft with a configuration of 16 business and 144 economy seats, provides on-demand in-flight entertainment system at every seat.

This follow's the airline's reintroduction to Dubai which will take place on August 5, 2013. The KL-Dubai return service will be mounted daily using the B777-200 aircraft that offers 282 seats in each flight, equivalent to 3,948 seats weekly.

In conjunction with the introduction of service to Kochi, Malaysia Airlines is offering promotional fares that start from only RM1,099 for all-inclusive economy class return travel. Business class starts from RM2,199 for an all-inclusive return journey. Bookings start from July 8 to 28 2013 for the travel period of September 1, 2013 till May 31, 2014.

For Darwin, fares start from RM1,399 for all-inclusive economy class return travel. Business class starts from RM3,199 for an all-inclusive return journey. Bookings start from July 8 to 28 July 2013 for the travel period of November 1, 2013 till May 31, 2014.

Since June 1, 2013, flights between Kuala Lumpur and Phuket, Thailand, have been increased to 26 times weekly with the introduction of one additional daily service as well as its frequency between Kuala Lumpur and Kathmandu, Nepal, from five times weekly to seven times weekly.

Flights between Kuala Lumpur and Mumbai, India, have been increased to 12 times weekly on June 3, 2013 with one additional service to its current daytime schedule.

Effective August 1, 2013, the airline will be operating four times daily between Kuala Lumpur and Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia.
