Zahid Hamidi withdraws suit against Rafizi

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 21, 2013): Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi withdrew his defamation suit against PKR strategic director Mohd Rafizi Ramli at the High Court today after the latter admitted that some material in his blog were wrongful statements, and agreed to remove it.

Rafizi read out a statement before Judicial Commissioner Lee Heng Cheong, stating that Ahmad Zahid had not abused his powers (when he was defence minister).

“I am satisfied with the explanation given by the plaintiff (Ahmad Zahid), that (he) had not abused his powers in any matter whatsoever and had no role whatsoever in the decision of Boustead Holdings Berhad to enter into transactions to acquire Astacanggih Sdn Bhd’s shares and development land from Awan Megah Sdn Bhd as stated in my article dated 29 Dec 2012.

“Therefore, I hereby unequivocally and unconditionally withdraw the wrongful statements in my article with reference to the plaintiff,” he said.

Lawyer Datuk Saseedharan Menon, representing Ahmad Zahid, told the court that Zahid accepted the statement and was withdrawing the defamation suit against Rafizi.

Outside the court, Rafizi told reporters it was not an apology but a withdrawal of inaccurate statements. Rafizi said the statement in the article was made with information available at that time.
