Khalid says 'no' to pay own fuel challenge

SHAH ALAM (Sept 4, 2013): Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim yesterday dismissed two cabinet ministers' challenge to Selangor state executive councillors to pay their own fuel expenditure instead of accepting their dues as state officials.

The challenge was originally issued by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) strategic director Rafizi Ramli two days ago to all ministers after the Barisan Nasional government raised RON95 and diesel prices by 20 sen a litre.

However, in an immediate response, Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz, and Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek had turned it around to the Pakatan Rakyat government of Selangor.

Khalid told the press that although the concept was ideal, the administration will not accept the challenge as they already understood the people's plight.

"Rafizi's statement was made to them (the ruling government's ministers) to point out the woes faced by the people (as a result of the price hike)," he said.
