Melaka immigration detain eight foreign security guards

MELAKA (Oct 31, 2013): Eight foreign security guards and 11 guest relations officers were among 40 foreigners detained by the Melaka Immigration Department for various offences in raids at four locations late last night.

State Immigration deputy director (Control) Abu Bakar Sidek Hasan said in the operation which began at 11pm and lasted more than six hours, eight Nepalese security guards were detained at two factories in Krubong, here.

"So far, more than 50 security guards were detained throughout Ops 6P and we will continue to find foreign security guards who have no legal documents," he said in a news conference here today.

He said the 11 guest relations officers detained comprised five Vietnam nationals, Thailand (five) and China (one) while a Nepalese was also arrested at an entertainment outlet in Melaka Raya, here.

Also detained were nine men and seven women from Indonesia, three Bangladeshi men and a man from Vietnam at a construction site on Jalan Syed Tun Abdul Aziz, Limbongan, here.

Abu Bakar said the foreigners were arrested for various offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and they were sent to the Machap Umboo Immigration Depot for further investigation.

Meanwhile, he said the Immigration Department with help from police detained an employer, 38, at 3pm yesterday for cursing department staff after two workers were detained last month for not having valid documents.

"We could not touch him because he was too aggressive, and he ignored our request for him to come to our office, he even hurled abusive words at our officers," he added.

He said the employer will be charged under Section 5B of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for employing a worker without a legal permit. – Bernama
