KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 1, 2014): About 15 million people consisting of international and domestic tourists are expected to visit Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2014.
"We are targeting a revenue of RM24.9 billion and Kuala Lumpur City Hall has allocated RM15 million to carry out various activities throughout the year," said mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Taib after launching the calendar of events and festivals for the city at KL Sentral station today.
"We expect some 10.1 million foreign tourists and 4.9 million domestic tourists and I am confident the target set for the tourist arrivals can be achieved," he said.
"Job and business opportunities will be created for the locals when tourists spend their money and this contributes to our economy," he said.
He emphasised that all goods that are sold should be genuine and hygiene should be of main concern for food operators when preparing dishes.
Ahmad Phesal said more tourism products and services would be introduced during the first quarter of this year, such as the "Helicopter-city-tour" programme.
He reminded the front-liners, such as immigration officers, taxi drivers, and hoteliers, that being the first point of contact for tourists, they should be willing to welcome and provide the best service to the visitors.
"I hope all Malaysians will show our hospitality and work together to make Visit Malaysia Year 2014 a successful event," the mayor added.
