GEORGE TOWN (Jan 2, 2014): For Eleasha Chew Sue Yuen, being offered a place in Harvard University is a dream come true.
"I am really grateful to be accepted into Harvard, as it has been my childhood dream," the 20-year-old from Penang said.
Sue Yuen, who is studying in Taylor's College Sri Hartmas, Kuala Lumpur, in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, said the Ivy League's motto of making a difference in society has resonated with her since she was young.
Her acceptance into the university in August this year is the first for a Malaysian in three years.
"I would want to contribute back to society," Sue Yuen told reporters this after receiving a certificate of appreciation and RM1,500 for her achievement from Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, here today.
Lim also awarded KDU College student Cheah Chung Yin, 20, a certification of appreciation and RM1,000 at the same event for scoring 8As in the World Advanced Level May-June 2013 examination.
