PUTRAJAYA (Jan 16, 2014): Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor (pix) today warned traders and food shop owners in Putrajaya against raising prices of goods and food or face stern actions.
Tengku Adnan said he has directed Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) president Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat to work with the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) in carrying out inspections to monitor prices of goods and food from time to time around Putrajaya.
"PPj can emulate the crackdown by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) in issuing warning notices, summonses or orders to close if a food shop was found to be dirty and have its business licence revoked if they commit serious offences," he said.
He told reporters after the pre-launch of the 6th International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta 2014 and Putrajaya Activity Calendar organised by PPj here today.
Also present was PPj president Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat.
He was commenting on the setting up of a special Cabinet committee to tackle rising cost of living chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Muhyiddin said enforcement of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act would be stepped up to take effective actions against errant traders who raised prices of goods indiscriminately.
In this regard, Tengku Adnan said the people needed to cooperate with PPj and KPDNKK by reporting cases of profiteering by traders.
"The government has provided various choices for the people to combat the high cost of living among which were 1Malaysia People's Shop, 1Malaysia Breakfast Menu and 1Malaysia Clinic.
"Do not believe the various allegations by irresponsible parties on the price hike as the government is working hard to lighten the burden of the people," he said.
Meanwhile, on the 2014 Putrajaya Activity Calendar organised by PPj, Tengku Adnan said it would help draw more domestic and foreign tourists to Putrajaya as a tourist destination in conjunction with the 2014 Visit Malaysia Year.
Putrajaya recorded 1.85 million visitors in 2013 and 1.83 million in 2012, and this year more interesting activities would be held to attract visitors to the federal government administrative centre, he said.
The 2014 Putrajaya International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta will be held from March 27 to 30 at the Millennium Monument, in Precinct 2 here. – Bernama
