ESSCom lauds role of media

LAHAD DATU (Feb 6, 2014): The Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) appreciates the role of the media in disseminating information on its activities in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone), especially on security aspects.
Its public and services management director Abdul Rahim Ishak said the media had played an aggressive role, especially in refuting rumours that could cause panic, besides explaining the real security situation in ESSZone.
He was speaking on behalf of ESSCom director-general Datuuk Mohammad Mentek at a dinner with members of the media here on Wednesday.
The ESSZone covers 10 districts on the east coast of Sabah, and ESSCom was set up to protect the sovereignty and security of the areas following an intrusion by a group of Sulu terrorists in Kampung Tanduo in February last year. – Bernama
