ALOR GAJAH (Feb 8, 2014): A 37-year-old man who charged at a policeman with a knife at Machap Umboo, Durian Tunggal here last night died while undergoing surgery to save his life after being shot.
Alor Gajah district police chief Supt Mohamad Laham said the suspect Loh Kim Hionh, 37, died at Melaka Hospital.
He said police received a call from a man at 3 pm yesterday that his neighbour had come to his house threatening him with a knife.
"A police team was sent to the location, but the suspect had confined himself in his house. The team kept vigil as the suspect was said to be aggressive and armed with a knife," he told a press conference at the Alor Gajah district police headquarters here today.
Mohamad said around 9pm the suspect was observed coming out of his house holding a knife and brandishing it at the public and police personnel who tried to confront him.
"He got on a motorcycle and sped off, but police managed to track him to some bushes at a nearby oil palm estate.
"A policeman tried for about 10 minutes to coax him to relent, but around 9.30 pm the suspect suddenly rushed out and tried to attack the former.
"Police let out some warnings which the suspect ignored prompting them to shoot at him in defence," he said.
Mohamad said initial investigations revealed, the suspect's motive for the attack on his neighbour stemmed from jealousy over the latter's alleged peeping at his wife while she was taking her bath, five years ago. – Bernama
