KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 8, 2014): Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) chairman P. Waytha Moorthy (pix) will be resigning from all his government posts and the Senate on Monday, according to a statement issued by Hindraf secretary P. Ramesh today.
Ramesh said that Hindraf's Central Committee had unanimously decided that Waytha Moorthy, who is currently a Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, will tender his resignation on Monday.
Hindraf had signed a memorandum of understanding with the government on April 18 last year in a bid to resolve socio-economic problems afflicting the Indian community in Malaysia.
Ramesh claimed Hindraf had now given up hope after eight months of trying since Waytha Moorthy took up the position within the government to lead the implementation of the pact.
"Hindraf's only regret is that we have not been able to deliver the changes to the Malaysian Indian poor, that we promised with this initiative. We sincerely apologise to them for the hopes we had raised," he said. – Bernama
