KUALA TERENGGANU (Feb 11, 2014): Four luxury cars were damaged after a car service centre and workshop situated on Jalan Bukit Kecil, here, was burnt down in a fire last night.
The 7.20pm incident left three Mercedes Benz cars and a BMW car with between five to 70% damages.
A witness, Maziadi Abdul Manaf, 41, said she had heard a loud explosion from her house situated near the service centre before rushing out to see what the noise was about.
Outside she saw that fire had broken out in the service centre and immediately asked her husband to contact the fire and rescue department.
"My husband and his friend took a steel pole to pry open the centre in hopes of helping, but backed off upon hearing several explosions for fear they would be hurt," she told reporters at the scene today.
Meanwhile, State Fire and Rescue Operations Centre officer Abdulah Zawawi Mohamed said 23 firemen and four fire engines from the Terengganu Fire Station were despatched to the scene, with assistance from 14 volunteer firemen and two fire engines.
"When we arrived the fire had destroyed the service centre and its store containing vehicle spare parts and paint," he said.
Firemen managed to control the fire at 8.02pm and extinguished it fully by 8.57pm.
    No fatalities were reported.
The cause of the incident and losses incurred are still being investigated. – Bernama
