DCA doing checks in stages on klia2 to meet May 2 deadline

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 19, 2014): The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) has started carrying out checks on klia2 and will continue to do so in stages in order to meet the May 2 deadline for the opening of the new terminal, said its director general Datuk Azharuddin Abdul Rahman.
"The operational readiness and airport transfer (Orat) has started in stages. DCA is also doing its inspection and specifications as well because we cannot wait for it (the terminal) to be ready, otherwise it'll be late. We do it together in stages, parallel with the work that's going on," he told reporters at the MIDF Luncheon Talk where he made a presentation on 'Malaysia's New Air Traffic Management System'.
While some parts of the airport have already been checked, he said there are also parts of the airport that need to be inspected more than once.
"We will do it part by part. Any part that's ready, we'll go in and inspect. It's very difficult to say how many percent of the checks are done because sometimes we have to do it twice; sometimes we have to do preliminary checks and then check again," he said.
He said the DCA will continue with checks periodically but declined to give a timeline on when it would complete all inspections.
