KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 19, 2014): Opposition Chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim does not pose a major hurdle for the Barisan Nasional (BN) to win the Kajang state by-election on March 23, says Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
The former prime minister noted that BN could win the by-election if it was successful in countering current issues raised, especially by the opposition.
He was speaking to reporters after attending a seminar, 'Remembering late Professor Datuk Dr Mohamed Mackeen Abdul Majid', at the International Islamic University Malaysia here today. Mohamed Mackeen was Abdullah's former lecturer when the latter was studying in Universiti Malaya.
The by-election is held, following the shock resignation of incumbent Lee Chin Cheh (PKR) on Jan 27. PKR has named Anwar, who is also the party's de facto leader, as its candidate.
Meanwhile, former minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Zaid Ibrahim has also stated his intention to contest as independent in the by-election. – Bernama
