PHNOM PENH (Feb 20, 2014): Malaysia and Cambodia today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in higher education.
Visiting Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin signed on behalf of the Malaysian government while Cambodian Minister of Education, Youth and Sports Dr Hang Chuon Naron signed for the Cambodian government.
Muhyiddin said the MoU was aimed at increasing the number of Cambodian students at the public and private institutions of higher learning in Malaysia. The MoU spelt out all areas that "we could work together to enhance the quality and standard of education in both countries", he said.
"I am happy to observe that there are quite a number of Cambodian students in Malaysia, which is a good start. We want to see more Cambodian students coming to Malaysia," he said in his welcome address at a bilateral meeting between the ministries of the two countries.
The MoU was signed in conjunction with Muhyiddin's three-day official visit to Cambodia from yesterday. – Bernama
