KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 20, 2014): A "vigorous and delicious" surprise will greet Tan Sri Vincent Tan when he arrives at Berjaya Times Square to cut his birthday cake on Berjaya Founder's Day tomorrow.
A 20-metre dragon cake is being prepared by Berjaya Hotels and Resorts for the celebrations.
Its group director of corporate marketing and communications Abel Nelson Nang said the cake is being made in the form of a dragon to represent Tan himself, who was born in the Year of the Dragon.
"We started working on the design three months ago. This year, the theme is 'East Meets West', where there are two dragons – one Chinese dragon and a winged Western dragon, holding up a globe."
He said the theme is to celebrate the journey of Berjaya since its beginning in 1984, "... from a Malaysian company, we are now a global presence".
On the globe, there will be tiny logos of all Berjaya subsidiaries, he added.
The cake is expected to be able to treat some 15,000 people.
The man behind this majestic creation is Berjaya's own pastry chef, Moh Ghouse Ishak, who has won several culinary awards, including one at a "chocolate cake championship".
"We have a team of nine chefs working on this cake four hours a day for the last 20 days. We have used 150kg of Belgian dark chocolate, 200kg of chocolate dough, 2,000 eggs and 75kg of sugar to create this masterpiece," he said.
