Chew aims for the 'impossible'

PETALING JAYA: MCA vice-president Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun is unfazed by her main opponent in the upcoming Kajang by-election and is out to turn what is deemed impossible into a possibility.
She intends to win over Kajang voters with a promise to devote her time to serve them if elected and be readily accessible.
Speaking to China Press, Chew said her biggest selling point is being people-friendly, and this is the image she has left with the people she represented in the past and is not deliberately created for the by-election.
She admitted that the by-election will be very tough for her and her party.
Those outside the party have written off MCA in Kajang but Chew regards the battle as a platform for her to fight and serve the party upon making a comeback.
She said many people had advised her to stay out, worried that she would only serve as a punching bag. "But as a 'son' of Selangor, I look upon it as a duty, even if I were to be sacrificed."
MCA will try its best to perform the impossible, that is to "turn what is impossible into possible", she said.
"Of course we understand that it is not easy, but we still hope the people of Kajang will give us a chance (to serve them)," she said.
Chew, who has moved to stay in Kajang to get closer to the people, said the response and feedback she got from the voters during her walkabouts were better than expected.
"This is a by-election that should not have happened, no matter how much Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim tries to justify it," she said.
She said PKR had deliberately created the by-election, and wondered why Anwar had not placed the interest of the public above the party's.
