Socso pays RM2.22 bil to contributors last year

    KUCHING: Social Security Organisation (Socso) has settled RM2.22 billion in payments to 423,287 contributors throughout last year, said Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot.
    He said a total of RM150.27 million was for the payment of survivors pension, followed by invalidity pension (RM453.65 million) permanent disablement benefit (RM392.77 million), dependents benefit (RM219.72 million) and temporary disablement benefit (RM150.27 million).
    "Socso also settled payments for dialysis treatment, totalling RM122.84 million, health screening programme (RM29.35 million) and always service allowance (RM24.92 million)," he said when officiating at the closing of the 'Socso With the Media' programme here today.
    Also present was Socso Chief Executive Datuk K. Selvarajah.
    Meanwhile, Riot said the collaboration between the media and Socso had helped to raise awareness and understanding among the employers of their responsibility to contribute.
    "This is reflected in the increased number of active employers, who contributed to Socso," he said.
    He said last year 393,359 employers contributed to Socso, a rise of 9,784 or 2.55% compared to 383,575 reported in 2012. Last year also saw an increase of workers, who actively contributed to Socso to 5,946,861 from 5,876,934 the previous year. – Bernama
