Entering its second year, the financial literacy programme involves an online educational video game that accords participants with smart money management knowledge. Country Manager Stuart Tomlinson espoused: “For nearly two decades, Visa has been developing financial literacy programmes around the world to help teach individuals how to spend, save and budget wisely and responsibly. I believe the ‘2014 Financial Football Malaysia’ competition we are launching today will appeal to many Malaysians, and like last year, entertain as it teaches the fundamentals of finance.”
Financial Football was introduced in 35 countries. It was initiated under Visa’s financial literacy programme and marketed as an innovative way to leverage passion for football while simultaneously inculcating moneymanagement skills. With the increased cost of living and the need to be financially prudent, AKPK general manager Azman Hasim discerned: “Financial literacy programmes like these will benefit every member of Malaysian society by helping people gain the knowledge, skills and confidence to make informed financial decisions.”
The 2014 Financial Football Malaysia online competition ends on April 16 when the top 10 scorers will be called to compete at the grand finals on April 23. The
competition is open to all Malaysians, permanent residents and those above 18 years old, who are registered under the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H)scheme.
Competition rules:
1. The game requires players to answer a series of multiplechoice questions to advance down field.
2. Players can choose to pass, dribble or shoot by clicking on relevant questions.
3. Correct answers will lead to the successful execution of the move while a wrong answer will result in the player losing possession of the ball.
The 2014 Financial Football Malaysia competition is supported by seven of the country’s leading financial institutions, including Bank Islam, BSN, Hong Leong Bank, Maybank, Public Bank, UOB and Aeon Credit Services. Registration is accessible through AKPK and bank partners’ websites as well as my.financialfootball.com.
In promoting good governance on monetary issues and financial matters, Visa, together with itsbank partners, will distribute brochures featuring simple tips and guidelines.
